Complete pulmonary function tests (PFT) or comprehensive breathing tests in Lahore, Pakistan
Pulmonary function tests, also known as comprehensive breathing tests, are the most common tests performed to evaluate any lung disease. These are also called PFT’s. Australian Pulmonary Function Tests Laboratory or PFT lab is the first of its kind in Lahore and it is the first comprehensive PFT lab in the private sector.
The tests included in comprehensive pulmonary function tests include spirometry, diffusion capacity of lung, also called DLCO or TLCO and comprehensive lung volume assessment. Complete pulmonary function tests need to have two out of these three tests, to be called PFT’s.
The spirometry is the most used breathing test and can be performed in any office setting and it requires a simple spirometer. Simple spirometry is commonly called as PFT which is not true. Diffusion capacity of the lungs or lung volume measurement require advanced equipment and patient needs to attend a proper pulmonary function testing laboratory to have those tests performed.
Complete PFT’s or pulmonary function tests provide a comprehensive analysis of lung health and to diagnose any underlying physiological impairment in the lung function.
If someone is worried about having any significant lung disease and spirometry is normal but clinical concerns remain, those patients should be referred to get comprehensive pulmonary function tests from a dedicated pulmonary function laboratory, to make sure there is no underlying lung impairment.
There is further information about spirometry, DLCO , and lung volume assessment.
We have established first private, state of the art breathing laboratory, Australian Pulmonary Function Laboratory in Lahore where comprehensive pulmonary function tests can be performed. The lab also has the facility to perform bronchial challenge test, skin allergy test and sleep studies.
